Yet another Shambhala is over, most of the “travellers” have gone home, and once again the local scene heats up again. Tonight Main Events Shows presents Swollen Members MC Mad Child with guests, an all-ages show at The Royal. Tuesday, alt-folk Faye Blais plays Expressions (the old Express Newspaper office), while out in the Valley a Full Moon Medicine party goes down at the Vallican Whole, with DJs Lady V, Naasko, and Joel West. In a rare Wednesday night opening at Spiritbar, Lighta! Sound DJ Mandai is joined by local Mama Sa, for a night of dancehall, dub, and reggae.
Heading into the weekend, Aussie wildman Ash Grunwald lights up Spiritbar on Thursday night. Friday is the final (?) Marketfest nightime party – let’s hope the weather co-operates – and it’s also the farewell show for locals Tofu Stravinsky. Tyler, Sarah, Jon and the gang are touring across Canada, and have chosen to relocate to Montreal in October. With Fernie’s Shred Kelly also on the bill, this is definitely the “Hot Ticket” for Friday night! Saturday night has Joe, Nik, and Bo Faraguna reuniting for a night of metal, followed by Jesse Lee (Rafferty Funksmith) on the decks until close, also at Spiritbar.
I’ll be making my way south east on Saturday, heading to The Gorge to see one of my favourites, Black Sabbath! Really excited to see “the originals” of metal lay down some classics, and party down with a large group also heading south from Nelson for this. I’ll give you a full story of the experience in next week’s edition, as well as (hopefully) some substantiated info on the latest from “The Royal saga”. Summer’s almost over, so get out there and enjoy some sun and music!
